I am a Christian

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin."
I'm whispering "I was lost,"
Now I'm found and forgiven.

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need CHRIST to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
and need HIS strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain,
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
who received God's good grace, somehow.

Maya Angelou

What church means to me.

When I was child, my grandma said,
"Time for church child, get outa that bed.
Wear a fancy dress or the neighbors will talk.
Wear stiff new shoes, never mind how you walk.
Hold your head high, so they'll see your new hat.
You know the neighbors will be jealous of that.

Now I'm all grown up and that was long ago.
And church is not the place I used to know.
I've found a deeper meaning, as you will see,.
Let me tell you what Church means to me.

Not four walls and a towering steeple -
But the sharing and the love from all the people.
More than a pulpit and an alter,
But a place to rest when you
are weak and falter.
Not a fancy building or fancy clothes
But a place to ease your daily woes.

Yesterday all looked dark and bleak
and then I heard my pastor speak.
The words were ordinary that she told,
but to me, like food for a starving soul.
Words of God's infinite love for me
Words of wisdom, so needed indeed.

Sometimes life seems too much to bear.
Is anyone listening? Does anyone care?
When all is lost and lonely and cold,
Church is where I will warm my soul.
Church is what caring and fellowship is -
And no one does it better than
Reverend Liz.
